Thwarted! · Jan 9, 08:12 AM
We were planning to drive out to the Skagit River this weekend to watch bald eagles: they winter along the river, feasting on the salmon that have mated and died. Apparently you can see dozens of them at a time.
Nature had some other ideas, however. There has been massive flooding in Washington this week, which has led to some massive mud slides. The road we need to take to get to the Skagit River is covered in a mudslide, just a few miles before the eagle-viewing spots. The Washington State DOT has some pretty impressive pictures of the damage from the flooding. Here’s the mudslide that’s thwarting our plans:
And if you’re the morbid type, there are lots more images of flooding and damage in the WASDOT Flickr Site.
